Deaths of prominent figures often come in threes. When both James Brown and Gerald Ford died within days of each other, I wondered who the third would be.
Well, now I know. I do not wish another good person dead, but I do regret that the above two could not have better company in death.
Saddam Hussein, the petty thug from Tikrit who became a brutal tyrant and mass murderer, was executed by hanging for crimes against the people of Iraq just before dawn, Saturday, December 30, 2006.
In most cases I oppose the death penalty … but I will not weep for this man.

I know that death comes in 3’s, and unfortunately the last one has to be included with the first 2. I would hope (not holding my breathe) that this would not increase the fighting that’s going on, but I know better.Truly the end of a regime….thank goodness.

Looking at this in hindsight, Sadam had to rule this crazy bunch with a iron hand, we have seen how trying civilized ways do not work with this type of mentality. Not taking up for Sadam, but he was not crazy mean like Hitler. We would have been better off leaving him alone. Little cowboy George screwed up.

I agree that George Bush screwed up, but I disagree with your assessment of the Iraqi people.
I would say rather that in the absence of a murderous tyrant who had ruled by fear for 20+ years, and without adequate numbers of military forces to provide stability and security, the religious authorities, the tribal sheiks, the criminals and the terrorists took over … because they have the guns and the organization. To refer to all Iraqis as “this crazy bunch” and to suggest that they are ALL somehow morally &/or intellectually incapable of ruling themselves sounds a bit racist.
Saddam was a thug who ruled by brutally murdering anyone who defied his authority. His fall from power is a good thing, but we certainly should have planned for it better.
