Knight: Please accept my sincerest apology for what has happened. Unfortunately, I have also been a victim of similar attacks. I had a voicemail left on my home machine that said, “We know where you live and we will find you.” Unfortunately, my son listened to the message before I could get to it and, as you might imagine, it shook him up. While I know these people are only a vocal minority, they are the ones speaking as others fear similar attacks on them if they enter the fray. I only hope that this type of violation on public debate is not allowed as Pekin moves forward. Unfortunately or fortunately for Pekin (depending on your view), this is exactly why Pekin has a poor reputation and may never evolve into what could be a wonderful community. These are antagonists of the worst type and it is our collective responsibility to deal with them by letting the vocal minority know that they do not run this town. I remember the comment about outsiders in a previous blog entry. These people do seem to fear outsiders and their only tactic for dealing with them is personal and sometimes over the top attacks. I have no idea if these types of people will ever act on their threats and it may be my paranoia running amuck, but I do fear the type of person that would leave a message on my home machine and the note on your door.

now let me get this straigt. a dude has a blog that admits he bad mouths all types of people and wont sign his name and then gets some heat for his mean talk and calls it cowardley. I say look in the mirror oh coward one.

Worse things have been said about the 108 board members and Dr White, in the editorial pages of our paper, then has been said here. I guess that is OK though.
I guess if you rock the boat, some in this town feel threatened. Too bad! Everyone is entitled to their opinion, not just a select few. Get used to it.

Kudos to you Knight for being a voice that seems to threaten some, though I can’t understand why they feel that way. I guess this town is only supposed to have certain voices heard. I hope this person is caught and made an example of. I won’t hold my breath though.

Second, protecting his family is not cowardly; it’s smart. And for exactly this reason.
I am Knight’s wife. Whoever wrote the note is a coward, and I am not impressed.
Let me say to Mr. or Ms. Coward, I laughed my ass off when I read the note. How pathetic does a person have to be? And don’t they have a job?
Anyone with 25 bucks (and some serious psychosis) and find an unlisted number or address. They should have paid a little a little bit more money and they would have found out some more things about my family. Like that I am not some meek, teeny female who is easily intimidated. And that I am a private investigator. Whoops. Mr. Coward made a slip on that one.
On the next note, (unless I find you before then) you might want to mention which issue it is that my husband talks about that distresses you. Actually… maybe you should just tell your therapist. They do have emergency mental health lines. Really, it’s toll free. 1-888-799-7373.

Chuck, You’re not “straigt” [sic] in fact, you are rather crooked. Let me help you out. The main difference between Knight and the moron who left the note is that KNIGHT HASN’T THREATENED ANYBODY, especially not the well being of innocent bystanders such as kids or parents. Staying anonymous on the internet, for a multitude of security reasons, is a sign of good judgment in my humble opinion. Leaving threatening note stating that one or one’s loved ones are in physical danger is unforgiveable, and illegal.

As also an “outsider” I have heard about the threats that have been made to people in our community.It has happened right next door to me. It’s a real shame that whomever did this, is just fueling the fire about how this town perceives people of all kinds. I think that EVERYONE is entitled to their opinion and that and that even though we disagree, we can agree that our opinions are different and move on from there. But for the select few “Pekinites” that think that this is “their town” that is not in the realm of their thinking. It’s a real shame because it does hold this town back from being a great community. Maybe getting some people into elected positions can help remedy this situation. I don’t have all the answers, but I think that other voices in town need to be heard. This blog site is one way that it’s being accomplished & I for one am thankful that you are continuing on this road. I may not always agree with you and your opinion, but you & I both have the right to voice it & exchange our views. Keep up the good work!

How sad and pathetic. Like KiD and others, I appreciate the opportunity to blog without using my real name. Given my position in the community I wouldn’t be able participate otherwise. It’s just very disheartening to see someone get so upset (over what?) that they have to resort to threats.

To everyone…please don’t generalize that this behavior is somehow accepted or appreciated in Pekin. We have our share of nut-cases, just like every other community.

I am so sorry this whole thing has happened. When are people going to wake up and relize it’s 2007 ? We all have opinions and they all are different, but there is NO need to turn to violence just because we don’t agree. I think Knight is a good man and a good citizen, the police should do everything they can to help stop this jerk !!

Allow me to offer tea and sympathy. I’ve had these jerks try to scare me before and it’s not fun, even when you know they’re just all talk.

I just read your blog. You make a good point but you forgot one important fact. The person that left the note on KiD’s door probably couldn’t pronounce most of the words on your blog, let alone have a big enough dictionary to decifer what Areopagitica means. That’s why they resorted to the threat! Too bad they can’t move up into the 21st century & be more civilized. I hope the police find this person before Kate does! I would hate to be on the receiving end of her….that’s for sure. Everyone knows how protective a mother can/should be over her children. This person better go back under the rock they crawled out from & hide for a very long time. I would venture to guess that Kate will leave no stone unturned though. And shouldn’t! Get ‘em Kate!

Ahhh … black helicopter makes a re-appearance at just this time. Interesting that my #1 suspect for this little event decides to show up on my blog again just now. You’ll be hearing from Pekin PD, Mr. Helicopter.

I’ve been threatened, defamed and attacked by emails, hangup phone calls, knocking on my windows late at night, eggs thrown toward my front door; they missed, just hit the wall garbage dumped in my yard, intimidating stares, ect.,all this occuring after I got involved actively in community affairs.

99/9/10 people who threaten are cowards and the same percentage never follow thru on their threats.

Chin down, fists up! I guess being a stalker\freelance postal carrier is easier than having their own blogsite where posting their opinions would be criticized. Unfortunately, we all have our cynics\critics\enemies and some are more brazen than others. I had mine question me at work, although not in a threatening manner in which you received.
