A Knight in Dragonland

Crossing the River

Quite the Fish Tale

For a freelance science project (go Geeks!), two New York teens collected samples of sushi from 4 restaurants and 10 groceries in Manhattan. They then sent the samples off to the Fish Barcode of Life project (yes, Fish-BOL) at the University of Guelph in Ontario.

Results of the DNA analysis revealed that 2 out of the 4 restaurants and 6 out of the 10 groceries were selling mislabeled fish. Fearing lawsuits and pointing out that this mistake (or deliberate deception) could have happened at any point along the supply chain, the teens declined to name the sources of the mislabeled sushi.

Caveat emptor.
