Extreme Makeover: Jake & the Grys Family Still Need Help!

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition · Jake Grys

I received a call this morning from Angie DeLost, the occupational therapist at Easter Seals who was primarily responsible for getting the Jake’s Independence petition started. She asked me to spread the word … Jake and his family still need help, and the best way people can help right now is by dollar donations.

The Journal Star had an article today quoting that $130,000 is needed to pay off the Grys family’s old mortgage. The figure is correct, but it’s not just to pay for the mortgage. A big chunk of that money is to pay for medical bills for Jake and the twins,

Donations can be made at any National City branch to the Design Built Homes Extreme Fund. You can also donate at the build site or online. None of the money contributed goes to ABC. It all goes to the Grys family to pay the old mortgage AND the mammoth medical bills they’ve accumulated caring for these special kids.

I know times are tough, but please … give a few dollars for Jake and his family. I can’t think of anyone possibly more deserving of your generosity. Thanks!

I see they are having a bus shuttle back and forth . Why don’t the Pekin Fire Dept do a boot collection of money like they do for other events? I would really like to see this family get the help, they need . This event is in my prayers ….

I know they did a fundraiser at the Peoria Walmart on Allen Rd. today. Hopefully they raise the money they need. Such a great family. I wonder if Cat or any of the other big companies around here did a causal day or just past an envelope around to collect some cash. Or for that matter, the Rivermen game on Saturday night would have been another good place. Here is wishing them the best.

I certainly do not mean to sound cold but doesn’t Easter Seals pick up the entire cost for patients?

For the therapy that they provide, perhaps. My understanding is that those services are provided on a sliding scale based on ability to pay. Nonetheless, even if he is receiving his therapy services for free, Jake has osteogenesis imperfecta. He has required multiple surgeries, hospitalizations, frequent casting, numerous and frequent doctor visits, etc. etc. etc.. Easter Seals does not pick up those costs.
