AMBUCS Charity Auction

April 26th, 2007 · 2 Comments

Come out to Pekin on May 4 to attend the annual AMBUCS Charity Auction at Memorial Stadium in Mineral Springs Park. The auction funds are used by AMBUCS to support numerous local organizations that provide services for children, especially kids with disabilities.
One of the big auction items this year is a 1991 Blue Bird [...]

Technical Difficulties

April 15th, 2007 · 1 Comment

Apparently Bill Dennis over at the Peoria Pundit is having some technical problems with his blog that may take a day or so to resolve.  It’s something about unwanted advertising, although I’m still able to access his blog and don’t notice any issues.  Perhaps it depends on your browser (I use Firefox).
Anyway, Bill [...]

Smoking Mad Makes the Trib

April 2nd, 2007 · 11 Comments

OK, I was so ragingly PO’d about the Journal Star’s Pekin school consolidation editorial today that I’m probably the last one in the local blogosphere to notice that I was quoted in the Chicago Tribune regarding my “Smoking Mad” post.
They obviously didn’t realize that I’m not an anonymous blogger anymore, since they just quote me [...]

BJ Blasphemes!

March 12th, 2007 · 12 Comments

No, I haven’t transformed into Dr. John Carroll. Heh.
BJ Aberle at Oneproblem has an interesting post about Avanti’s. He still feels the love, but recognizes that those from outside the area just don’t understand the affection. Even acknowledging that relatively minor sacrilege may get BJ lynched by a band of Gondola-wielding brigantes, red [...]

Now I’m REALLY Out

March 7th, 2007 · 6 Comments

Michelle Teheux wrote a nice editorial in the March 7 edition of the Times (the link is broken … I’m not sure why) highlighting my situation. Thanks, Michelle … you could have warned me you were doing that! Now I’m REALLY out.
I’d like to give some additional hat tips to some other bloggers [...]

Unintended Consequences

March 1st, 2007 · 4 Comments

The number of visits and page views to my blog has literally DOUBLED since I posted about the threat placed on my door. Now even more people are reading what I have to say. Was that your intention, Stalker? Somehow I don’t think so.
I’d like to thank everyone who has offered their [...]

At Least One Journalist Appreciates Me

February 17th, 2007 · 2 Comments

Many thanks to Jonathan Ahl of WCBU and the blog Ahl Things Considered (a play on his name and the great NPR show) for his very complementary post and addition to his blogroll.  I’m honored and flattered!

Peoria Watch Spotlights Peoria Promise

February 10th, 2007 · 1 Comment

Merle Widmer is blogging again after a long hiatus.  He sounds a bit skeptical regarding the Peoria Promise scholarship program proposed by Mayor Jim Ardis.  I agree with him that the lack of some minimum GPA to qualify for the scholarship is a bit concerning.  Does a kid who just barely passes high school deserve [...]

Blogization of Traditional Media

January 28th, 2007 · 2 Comments

Is blogization a word?  Well, it is now.
The Times weekend edition has a staff editorial about opening up their web edition for comments.  This feature has been in place for a month or two now, but I guess they wanted to draw attention to it in the print edition.  I found the following comment interesting:
Many [...]

Peoria.com is Up & Running

January 4th, 2007 · 5 Comments

And I’m a “Peoria-area blogger.”  Time for a self-congratulatory pat on the back for Mr. Knight.
They have a decent list of local bloggers.  The requisite “BIG FOUR” are there – Peoria Pundit, Peoria Chronicle, Eyebrows McGee and PI / NTPL.
They should definitely include Lollygaggin and Chef Kevin … and I “suggested” them.  Anyone else who [...]
